With over 700 islands to explore, there’s so many places to go in the Bahamas! It can be a bit overwhelming to figure out where to start. You can walk down the beautiful pink beaches on Harbour Island, scuba dive with hammerhead sharks off of Bimini Island, swim with pigs in the Exumas, or sip a Bahama Mama cocktail on Paradise Island.

The good news:
Rest assured, they’re all amazing!

Here are some of the main places to go in The Bahamas:

  • New Providence (Nassau)
  • Paradise Island (Atlantis)
  • Bimini
  • Exumas
  • Eleuthera (Harbour Island)
  • Grand Bahama (Freeport)
  • Abacos
  • Andros
  • Berry Islands
  • Cat Island
  • Long Island
  • San Salvador
  • Crooked Island/ Acklins
  • Great Iguana

Facts:

  • Language: English
  • Currency: Bahamian Dollar or USD (1:1)
  • Credit Cards & ATMS: The main islands, cities and tourist destinations usually take credit cards, however if you’re going to a more local store or a more remote island, I’d suggest going to an ATM in one of the main cities first to be prepared.
    • Helpful tip: Contact your accomodation and simply ask before you go!
  • Plugs: Type A & B, 120v, 60z (Same as the U.S.)
  • Safety: Overall, I’ve never felt unsafe in the Bahamas, especially in the smaller islands. However, crime is on the rise and in the major cities: Nassau and Freeport, there have been reports of crime, mainly associated with robbery. I’d suggest taking precautions as you would in any main city around the world: be aware of your surroundings (especially at night) and protect your valuables.
  • When to go: The Bahamas are located in the Hurricane Belt so if you’re planning on visiting during the summer months (June-October) be prepared for high temperatures (80-90 F), humidity and rain. The water temperature is usually around 85 F during the summer. The winter months (December-March) are cooler temperatures (65- 75 F), clear skies and a little less humidity. You can expect cooler water temperatures, around 75 F.

My favorite color is Bahamas Blue!

I truly don’t think there’s any better color. Every time I go to the Bahamas, I am in awe of the color of the water! The Bahamas never gets old to me. The beautiful beaches, the abundant marine life and the beautiful sunsets keep me wanting to come back time and time again.
